The Assembly Line
(Assembly Line)
The assembly line was another great invention of Ford's. The assembly line was a easier way to put the car together. The idea came to Ford after watching his workers going back and forth to the nuts & bolts bin, then back to the workbench. Ford and his engineers designed conveyor belts that ran down long tables carrying parts and pieces that needed to be put together. This made working more efficient and easier to meet the high demand of the automobile. (Pbs.org)
During This Time
During this time Ford was the most popular American car Company. It was so popular 15 million of America's cars were Fords. They were so popular because of how affordable the Model T was. Because of this it helped the company rise in the automobile industry. Also during the first World War Ford's cars served as Field Ambulance's and Patrol cars for the Allies. Why was Ford such a Success?
(Ford)
Ford and his company were so successful and well liked because of what they gave the world (an affordable automobile). Another reason for his success is how he knew that for his invention to take off he needed to make it affordable, and so he did. When the Model T was first produced the asking price was only $850 which is equal to around 20,000 today. Next he made sure his workers were the most loyal. The way he accomplished this was paying a $5 a day wage. This today may not sound like a lot but in the 1920s this was unheard of. (corporate.ford.com)
